Building

The Town of Huron Building Department has many functions, we work with new homeowners and longtime residents interested in building new homes, or making alterations to existing ones, as well as repairs.  We work with people wishing to do businesses, commercial construction, and alterations, including change of occupancies.  Our department will work with you to help make the building permit process be as simple as possible. Our department is your liaison between the Zoning Board of Appeals and Planning Board, we are there to help you with applications that may need their approvals.

The Building Department administers the Uniform Code, the Town Zoning Law, the Town Land Development Regulations, the Energy Code, the Property Maintenance Law and all other laws, codes, rules and regulations applicable to the location, design, materials, construction, alteration, repair, equipment, maintenance, use, occupancy, removal and demolition of buildings, structures and appurtenances and those applicable to fire prevention and fire safety in the Town.  We also oversee the Town’s Coastal Erosion Hazard law, Floodplain Law and Dock & Mooring law. 

Today’s permitting process has become very complicated and time consuming at times with all the agencies involved.  A call to our department to discuss your project may be helpful, we can provide you the information needed to obtains permits.  This can be helpful and save time especially when other agencies are involved.

Please complete the fillable forms online. You can either print them out and bring them in or mail them to the Building Department or you can email them to Diane  (dbean@townofhuron.org). You still need to come in to sign your form.

The Building Department is open from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Thursday, except for published holidays.
